Champagnole
"Heart of the Jura"

Situated in the region of plateaux, Champagnole, at the heart of the Jura, is the gateway to the Jurassian Massif. Whelter one approaches from the Paris-Dijon direction towards More-Les Rousses, the southern High Jura and Geneva, or from Lyon-Lons le Saunier towards Pontarlier-Métabief-Les Hopitaux-Vallorbe and central Switzerland, one is obliged to pass via Champagnole.

For holiday-makers and travellers this area presents the classic image of the Jura : meadows on raised plateaux are separated by mountains covered by remarkable deciduous and coniferous forests (orJoux), known to forestry specialists worldwide, and which open onto numerous viewing-points (belvédères). It possesses an exceptional hydrographic network of springs, wild river-valleys, waterfalls and natural lakes.

Within a circumference of 15 to 25 km. there is a continuous succession of picturesque sites. The area offers pleasures at all seasons, those of the lakes and rivers in summer, the nearby slopes for cross-country and downhill ski-ing in winter and is a paradise for walkers or mushroom-gatherers in autumn.
